Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, best known by his stage name Kid Cudi was born on 30 January 1984. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Shaker Heights High School for two years before transferring to Solon High School. However, he was expelled from the school but later earned his GED. He enrolled at the University of Toledo to study film but dropped out after a year.
In 2005, Cudi moved to New York City to pursue his musical career, moving in with his uncle Kalil Madi, an accomplished jazz drummer. He worked at several Manhattan clothing stores and eventually rented an apartment in Brooklyn with friend and collaborator Dot da Genius. He later met his future mentor, rapper Kanye West twice: first in a Virgin Megastore, then at the BAPE store in New York.
