However, he was expelled from the school but later earned his GED. He enrolled at the University of Toledo to study film but dropped out after a year.
In 2005, Cudi moved to New York City to pursue his musical career, moving in with his uncle Kalil Madi, an accomplished jazz drummer. He worked at several Manhattan clothing stores and eventually rented an apartment in Brooklyn with friend and collaborator Dot da Genius.
