Kai Michelle Carter was born on June 1, 2005. She is the daughters of retired NBA star Vince Lamar Carter Jr. commonly known as Vince Carter and Ellen Rucker Sellers. She is ethnically black and was born in the United States.

Kai is the only daughter from Carter and Rucker’s two years of marriage. Her parents met when her mother was a four year varsity cheerleader at North Carolina University. Her parents would later go on their separate ways after getting a divorce in 2007. Nonetheless, the two have demonstrated great co-parenting skills with both being actively involved in her upbringing. Her father went to the lengths of re-signing with the Atlanta Hawks so that he could be close to his daughter and watch her play varsity volleyball in high school.
According to her father, he would not only want to watch her grow into a great athlete but also become a better person.

Her father Vince Carter is a renowned basketball player and the only one to play in four different decades for a total of 22 seasons. He mainly played the position of shooting guard and small forward positions but would also occasionally play power forward later in his career.
The National Basketball Association (NBA), journalists and numerous players have termed him as the greatest dunker of all time. He has been an eight-time all-star as well as a two-time all-NBA team selection.
Kai’s mother Ellen Rucker Sellers is best described as a passionate businesswoman and a doctor of chiropractic medicine. She studied chiropractic medicine after college, at Life University, in Atlanta. She would later launch her new hairline “Rucker Roots” which has successfully performed in the market. She is today married today to Baker Sellers and together they have two kids (twins); Stokley and Sadie.
Her parents from her maternal side are Dr. Douglas & Mrs Ruby Rucker and from her paternal side are Vincent Carter Sr. and Michelle Carter.
