Nicholas Zakharenko was the father of American actress Natalie Wood. He was a day labourer and carpenter. He died on 18 November 1980. We don’t know the reason of his death. We don’t have much information regarding him, so in this article, we’ve mentioned everything about his daughter’s life and professional career.
Who is Natalie Wood?
Natalie Wood was an American actress who started acting at the age of 4 as a child actress before switching to young adult roles. At the age of 8, she was offered a co-starring role in the movie “Miracle on 34th Street.” She continued to work in movies and they all served as a “coming of age” proclamation.
Early Life and Struggles
On July 20, 1938, Maria Zudilova and her second husband, Nicholas Zacharenko, welcomed Natalie into the world when they were in San Francisco. Her family left Russia when the Russian Civil War began, relocating as refugees in the Chinese city of Harbin. The cast and crew of a movie were shooting in downtown Santa Rosa when they spotted Natalie. Her last name was changed to Wood in honour of director Sam Wood after David Lewis and William Goetz, studio executives at RKO Radio Pictures, saw her perform as a young kid.
Roles As a Child Actress
Wood made her uncredited film debut in a fifteen-second scene in the 1943 movie Happy Land. Despite having a little role, Irving Pichel, the director, took interest in her. He kept in touch with Wood’s family for two years, letting them know that she’ll get a new role. In the film “Tomorrow Is Forever,” she portrayed a post-World War II German orphan when she was just 7 years old.
Personal Life and Relationships
Natalie had many affairs and relationships during her life, and it was heavily publicised about her two marriages with actor Robert Wagner. When Wood was 19 years old, they got married for the first time on December 28, 1957. She also had a broken engagement with Ladislav Blatnik, a shoe-maker from Venezuela. After nearly three years of relationship, Wood married a British producer Richard Gregson and the two had a daughter. Gregson and Wood got divorced on 4 August 1971. At the end of January 1972, Wood and Wagner restarted their relationship and got married again on March 9, 1974.
Cause of Death
On November 29, 1981, at the age of 43, Wood passed away at the Santa Catalina Island coast while on a holiday. Conflicting witness accounts of the circumstances leading to her death led the coroner’s office to urge the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to label her cause of death as “drowning and other unidentified reasons.”
Awards and Recognitions
She got nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the teen drama “Rebel Without a Cause.” Her acting in the movies “Splendor in the Grass” and “Love with the Proper Stranger” earned her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She also received a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the “From Here to Eternity” remake.
